Character of the Kurilian Bobtail

The Bobtail does not have a cat-like character at all; in terms of loyalty and friendliness, this cat can compete with dogs. They are very friendly, have an unusual and pleasant voice, and accompany their owners in all matters. These pets become very attached to people and seek their company, which is a very rare occurrence for cats, which are known to “walk on their own.” The owner should make sure that the pet has free space where he can jump, climb and play. These cats are very active.

On the largest of the Kuril Islands, called Iturup, lives the cat Kesha, who has become a local landmark. The handsome red-haired man loves to pose for the camera and happily greets tourists who come to see him.

The kitten was born at a local fish hatchery, where employees of the Vannochka base took him in and named him Kesha. He surprised everyone with his flexible disposition, because the cat surprisingly allows everyone to stroke him and never lets out his claws. One day, a local worker posted a photo of Kesha on a social network, where, thanks to his photogenic appearance and beautiful red and white fur coat, he immediately gained admirers.

Kesha has her own page on Instagram, which is gradually gaining subscribers. Today there are just over 500 of them, but the saffron milk saffron with a model-like feline appearance still has everything ahead!

Kurilian Bobtail

Kurilian Bobtail breed was developed relatively recently.
Because of its characteristic color and smooth movements, breeders nicknamed the cat a domesticated lynx. Its characteristic feature is a small, hare-like tail. By the way, “bobtail” means “short tail”. This is an amazingly smart and cheerful cat that loves the company of people and treats all family members well. The bobtail standard was adopted in 1995, and since then beautiful short-tailed cats have begun to appear at exhibitions. It should be noted that the Kuril Bobtail breed can have two variations: semi-longhair and shorthair; they are assessed separately. Kuril cats are small, but muscular, with a strong and compact body and smooth body lines. The head is proportional to the body, has the shape of an equilateral triangle with rounded lines. A forehead with a smooth transition to the nose, full cheeks, low cheekbones. The cat's chin is strong and its nose is straight. The ears are medium in size, set wide and high, with brushed tips and well rounded. Kurilian Bobtail cats have almond-shaped medium eyes, slightly slanted, but not deep-set or protruding. The eyes must match the color; all shades of yellow-green are allowed.

The cat's body is strong and muscular, but it should not be rough. The limbs are not too long, the paws are round, small and wide. The cat's tail is short, its length ranges from 5 to 13 centimeters, it is shaped like a “pompom” and has a good edge. The tail can be of any degree of mobility; it consists of 2-10 vertebrae, bent in different directions.

The coat of short-haired individuals should be small and thin, with a dense undercoat. Longer hair grows on the back and lower parts of the body. Semi-longhair cats have thin, long hair with a dense, clearly visible undercoat. The decorating hair should be well-groomed, the tail should be pubescent, and a collar should be visible on the chest and neck.

Any colors are allowed except Abyssinian and color point. The best option is bicolors and tabbies. The brindle pattern is one of the main color varieties, with a dark stripe running along the back and tail, and the sides are covered with vertical stripes. The spotted color is also popular; it is exotic and resembles a wild lynx. The sides of the cat are covered with oval or round spots, and a broken dark line runs along the back. Another type of color is marbled, the sides of the cat are covered with characteristic stains, and two stripes run along the back.

The main disadvantages of the Kuril Bobtail are considered to be: irregular body structure, too narrow head, round or bulging eyes, slightly pubescent or too long tail, dry and dull coat without undercoat, pointed ears. Crossing bobtails with other breeds is not allowed.

Choosing a nickname for a ginger cat according to different criteria

There is no optimal way to choose a name. All owners subconsciously lean toward individual associations to come up with names for ginger kittens.

In most cases, the choice of name is influenced by completely standard conditions: appearance and behavior.

Nickname for the color of a red kitten

Animals of the red group are not uniform in color, and this also influences the choice of name. Along with the usual fiery red, there are cream, lilac, sand, and brown. Therefore, you need to choose a nickname in accordance with this parameter - more sonorous for bright babies, calmer for kittens with a light coat.

Another common feature that influences the choice of name for ginger cats is that they are always tabby or spotted. This immediately brings to mind their predatory relatives. This is how variants of nicknames appear that mention tigers, leopards and other representatives of the cat family.

The nature

There is an opinion that all red cats are cunning and affectionate. They would rather deceive than attack, and will achieve their goal with the help of feigned humility. These traits are rarely reflected in nicknames - names for ginger cats are invented in childhood, and their individual characteristics (character and habits) begin to emerge in adulthood.

Universal options

Some owners call the ginger cat completely neutral. There are recommendations for selecting nicknames with hissing and whistling sounds, based on the number of syllables and sonority. All such statements are very doubtful, because no one has conducted research on cat hearing and their sensitivity to certain letters.

If the owner has the desire and time to experiment, then the universal nicknames of ginger cats (and any other colors) need to be tested on the animals themselves. Pets are sensitive to intonation, timbre and diction.

Any individual speech impediments may sound threatening or unintelligible to their ears. That’s why owners with burrs don’t call red cats by nicknames with the letter “r,” and those with a lisp try to avoid hissing and whistling names, which are so recommended by cat naming experts.

Important! Whatever the criterion for selecting a nickname for a ginger cat, it must be checked for susceptibility by the pet himself. In some cases, a combination of letters that sounds euphonious to human hearing is perceived by the animal as threatening or does not attract its attention.

What's special about the breed?

Kurilian Bobtails do not show aggression towards children, therefore they are successful pets for families with children.
