Don't take away her victory: how to play with a cat correctly

Read how to play with a laser pointer correctly so as not to harm your cats’ eyesight.

It is absolutely not necessary to buy a cat a bunch of expensive toys, although 5-6 different strong toys (that cannot be torn, all sorts of glitter, strings, painted feathers and small parts cannot be bitten off from them) are a must.

Carefully choose toys for your cat in pet stores. Do not think that they were made by specialists who cared about the safety of the animal. Most often this is not the case. Ready-made toys are often expensive, made to express the owner's prestige, and are easy to tear and choke on. Swallowed parts of toys can cause intestinal obstruction and require major surgery.

Never leave strings, laces, ribbons, or thick threads unattended alone with your cat!

Cats do not understand how much money you spent on a toy; it is important for them that it is interesting and convenient to hunt.

You can make many simple toys yourself:

  • tie a piece of newspaper or thick rustling paper to a string and make the cat chase it. It is also good to tie wooden spools without threads.
  • Tie a bunch of feathers or a piece of faux fur tightly to a long thin stick (this toy is usually called a “fishing rod”)
  • sew small “mice” yourself from pieces of faux fur or soft fabric
  • roll balls from newspaper or rustling paper and throw them. Many cats love to bring them to their owner, like little dogs.
