Attention!

Siamese are wayward creatures. They are not too kind to strangers and do not tolerate malice, but they are ready to repay sincere love, friendliness and affection in the same coin. Such a cat will only get along with a true fan and connoisseur of pets.

What you need to choose a name

Usually, owners choose nicknames for cats according to their own ideas and preferences. Some people like original, sonorous, easy-to-pronounce names. Others prefer to call cats long, elaborate, noble names. The choice for a Siamese cat is great, but when choosing, you need to consider the following nuances:

  1. Simple and sonorous pronunciation. The nickname should not cause difficulties in pronouncing, because the owner will have to call the pet several times a day.
  2. Cat's perception. Your pet should have no difficulty in adopting a name. The optimal nicknames are those consisting of 2-3 syllables, which contain the consonants “m”, “sh”, “s”, “r” - sounds that are well perceived by cats by ear. Also, the cat must like the name, otherwise the headstrong animal will refuse to respond.
  3. Meaningful content. Choosing a name for a Siamese pet should not be thoughtless. The nickname may be beautiful, but it is completely unsuitable for the cat. Usually a name is invented for a Siamese cat that correlates with its color point color, magnificent blue iris, temperament and habits, and Thai origin.

Names for Siamese cats

The Siamese is a noble, elite breed; the cat has a complex and willful character. The name must be chosen appropriately: interesting, memorable, attractive. The meaning of the nickname must certainly be positive and non-offensive.

The Siamese cat can be given a long name that sounds noble and elegant, but it is difficult to pronounce. Come up with a shortened version consisting of 1-2 syllables.

For Siamese cats, nicknames with a smooth, melodic sound are optimal. Do not use a name that is harsh in pronunciation: it will not suit a sweet and delicate representative of the Siamese breed. It is worth abandoning the name, which emphasizes phlegmaticity, calmness, and clumsiness: this option is optimal for a respectable British pet, but not for an active and inquisitive Siamese cat.

Description of the breed

A silky coat, expressive eyes, deft movements and unusual coloring are what immediately catches the eye when interacting with representatives of this species. They are slender and fit, graceful and impetuous. These animals have the following characteristics:

  • The size is average, well-defined muscles, the body is slender, flexible, long. The neck is also long, the shoulders are no wider than the hips, the paws are oval, long and even, the tail is thin and long, sharp at the tip.
  • The head is wedge-shaped, flat forehead and straight long nose.
  • The ears are wide at the head and pointed at the top, large.
  • Short and shiny coat that lies close to the body. There is no undercoat.
  • The color can be any colorpoint, but without white. The peculiarity of the breed is its acromelanic color, that is, the fur darkens in areas where the body temperature is lower.
  • The eyes are almond-shaped, most often green or blue. Multi-colored ones are often found.

It is considered a disadvantage if the eyes are set too deep or protruding; in addition, they should not be oblique, although they are set at an angle, repeating and emphasizing the wedge-shaped shape of the head.

Siamese Magnolia

Siamese cats are very demanding. If you don’t pay attention to them for a long time, these cuties begin to persistently remind you of themselves, meowing loudly and abruptly. This feature can be played up by coming up with a funny nickname.

What can you call a purebred kitten?

If a kitten picked up on the street can be named whatever your heart desires, then with purebred animals everything is a little more complicated. The aristocratic origin of your cat requires a loud, long name, which must be combined with titles and other names in the animal's passport. At home, you can shorten the name for convenience, but if your plans include cat shows and competitions, then take the trouble to learn the full, official version.

If your chosen pet has a rich pedigree, then familiarize yourself with it and check if there are any patterns. For example, if the names of all animals begin with a certain letter, then you must follow this rule. Very often a cat is called by some word from the language of the place where its breed originated. For example, all breeds of sphinxes are very fond of being called Cleopatra, and cats of the British breed have truly royal names - Victoria, Elizabeth, Josephine, Clementine, and so on.

British breeds are often called beautiful, aristocratic names:

  • Abigail,
  • Adelaide,
  • Bellatrix,
  • Bellatrix,
  • Belladonna,
  • Isabel,
  • Bianca,
  • Cassiopeia,
  • Niobe,
  • Clementine,
  • Matilda,
  • Louise,
  • Eleanor,
  • Laura,
  • Trinity,
  • Tabitha,
  • Barbara,
  • Gertrude,
  • Natalie,
  • Demuria,
  • Proserpine.

Despite the fashion for beautiful Japanese words used as names. has firmly entered into everyday life, Japanese cat breeds, for example, the Japanese bobtail, can be called one of these words: Aiko - beloved, Aimi - beautiful love, Asa - morning, Kiku - chrysanthemum, Hoshi - star, Sake, Sakura, Yuki.

It is better to call a Bengal cat by an unusual, ancient name:

  • Gita (from Sanskrit - “song”),
  • Devi (Sanskrit – “goddess”),
  • Devika (Sanskrit – “little goddess”),
  • Ila (Sanskrit – “earth”),
  • Indira (Sanskrit – “beauty”),
  • Xiu (translated from Chinese as “grace”),
  • Xia (from Chinese - “pink cloud”),
  • Lalita (translated from Sanskrit as “playful”),
  • Leela (Sanskrit for "play")
  • Prima (Sanskrit - “love”).

It is logical to name a Scottish Fold kitten with a name that has a certain meaning in the Scottish language:

  • Alice (victory of the elves),
  • Vevina (sweet),
  • Dina (sea warrior)
  • Donna (ruling the world)
  • Iona (island)
  • Casey (vigilant)
  • Kelsey (wild)
  • Mackenzie (beautiful)
  • Netta (champion),
  • Eila (bird).

Because of the name of the breed, the first association with sphinxes is something Egyptian. So why not choose something with a desert and pyramids vibe:

  • Bastet,
  • Sekhmet,
  • chickpeas,
  • Isis,
  • Nekhbet,
  • Maat,
  • Nefertiti,
  • Hatshepsut,
  • Cleopatra (father's glory),
  • Amizi (Egyptian for "flower")
  • Evs (cat),
  • Zalika (highborn),
  • Zema (queen)
  • Ife (love)
  • Miu (softness),
  • Nanu (beautiful)
  • Salama (peaceful)
  • Saliha (pleasant).

Persian cats are the embodiment of nobility and self-esteem. From Persian and Arabic languages we can take the following names:

  • Amani (translated from Arabic it means “desired”),
  • Anisa (in Arabic this means “affectionate”, and in Persian it means “friend”),
  • Buse (from Persian - “kiss”),
  • Ziba ("beautiful" in Persian),
  • Minu (from Persian - “paradise”),
  • Muna (can be translated from Arabic as “desire”),
  • Nima (from Iranian - “grace”),
  • Surayya (from Arabic - “star”).

Choosing a nickname for a cat is a very serious and responsible task, since she will have to go by this name all her life.

Appearance of a Siamese cat

The West has idolized the Siamese breed for 120 years. However, the appearance of this cat was not always the same as can be seen at modern exhibitions. The standard was approved only in 1902, a year after the official registration of the “Siamese Club”.

Cats of those times were not so long-legged. The muzzle was uneven, and the body was somewhat shorter than the current one. Gradually the club recognized coat colors. The first representatives of the standard could only be of the “royal” color - a beige body with dark, almost black, points.

Recognition of the different colors of Siamese cats has been gradual.

Today, Siamese can boast a wide variety of color combinations. There are caramel, cinnamon, lilac and chocolate colors.

In a true representative of the breed, the eye color will certainly harmonize with the color of the “outfit”.

You can read about the currently recognized color variants of Siamese cats below.

Breed standards

The modern standard was adopted in the 50s. Since then, a true Siamese should be lanky, with a narrow triangular muzzle and large, wide-set ears.

Table 1. Modern Thai breed standard

ParameterDetails
MuzzleNarrow, with a straight bridge of the nose
EyesAlmond-shaped and convex, with a beveled cut
EarsThe ears are directed in different directions
StomachRetracted, "sporty"
LimbsLong, rear set higher than front
PawsNeat, oval
BodyMuscular but lean

The fur of Siamese cats adapts to the temperature conditions in which they are located.

The shade of the breed's coat depends entirely on the temperature of the area. Cats born in warm regions are much lighter than their northern counterparts. It is also strange that the coat color can change even in adulthood if the cat is transported to a radically different climate.
