A fairy tale about a curious kitten, experiences and experiments in the world around us on the topic

Why is it said that curiosity killed the cat?

This phrase has its origins in England in the 16th century, when the original phrase was first heard, it was “care killed the cat,” which is a literal translation into Spanish of “worry killed the cat,” but it was then changed to “carry kills the cat.” , since with the etymological advancement of the language it made the word care be changed to curiosity.
What we wanted to convey with this phrase is that the worry, worry and stress that these generate can cause physical or mental problems that will be reflected in the long term

Why were cats chosen as an example? because they stand out for their stealth and caution, always thinking about whether to take a step

However, using the word "curiosity" was even more successful because it is the kind of curiosity that can drive a pussy to such an extent that she puts his life at risk without even realizing it. They embark on an adventure without thinking about anything other than satisfying their curiosity, but this creates a state of contentment that is good for their mental health. Irony...

A new version

It is for this reason that, during the 20th century, a new version of the famous phrase appeared, namely: “curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought it back.” What lesson did I want to teach people? Well, we shouldn't settle, we should take risks even if there are dangers because worrying too much about not doing so will only cause problems in the long run.

You may never have imagined that the phrase would teach us such important life lessons, but as it is well said, nature is wise. And those who use it to create such short sentences that contain so much depth also demonstrate some of this wisdom.

In fact, research conducted around this phrase has shown that people who care less about “what would happen if…” were happier, had better interpersonal experiences, and better social relationships.

However, those who did not embark on adventures found great pleasure in food, drink or sex, but were isolated from the world. What lesson will you learn from this? This is just a rhetorical question.

Hunting for a laser pointer causes mental trauma to a cat

Cat owners know that there is no better game for their pet than “hunting” for a laser pointer or a sun bunny. Although the light spot or laser trail does not even remotely resemble mice or other prey, their unpredictable, fast movements awaken cats' hunting instincts and an irresistible desire to give chase, which is ultimately doomed to failure.

Ethologists (animal behavior specialists) are confident that frequent “hunting” for a laser pointer or a sun “beam” can be harmful to a cat precisely because of the elusiveness of “game”.

Nicholas Dodman

“Chasing a spot of light is so exciting for cats that they can’t stop – it becomes a habit, but the result is unattainable, and the ‘unsuccessful chase’ provokes mental trauma,” Professor Nicholas Dodman, a member of the School of Veterinary Medicine, explained in an interview with Live Science magazine. at Tufts University (Massachusetts).

By the way, recently experts conducted a study that revealed some similarities between the pathology of cats’ endless “hunting” for laser pointers and people’s addiction to TV: in both cases, attention is tenaciously captured by the movements of light.

Beliefs and superstitions if a furry pet died in an apartment

  1. Feeling death, he left home - he doesn’t want to upset his owners and loves them. This is how cats show their affection. If the pet wanted to stay at home during the last hours, it is likely that he did not experience warm feelings for his owners.
  2. The cat died - wait for trials. A sign that has been believed for hundreds of years. It means that with the death of a pet, difficult trials will come to the owner, associated not only with the death of a beloved pet. Perhaps a serious illness will overtake you.
  3. With the death of a cat, all negativity goes away. This sign, unlike the previous one, suggests that the pet dies at home and thereby saves its owners, taking with it all the hardships. In Ancient Egypt, the cat was always a sacred animal. It was believed that after death she becomes a guardian angel for her owners.
  4. The death of a pet means money. There is also such a slightly cynical sign. Seeing an animal die is immediate success and financial well-being. If the cat was white, they say it was for love.

Why and why can they die?

Animals die for various reasons. The cat may die of old age, then there is no need to look for any signs of fate here. There is no talk of any negativity either. If the animal was at the threshold, the room or apartment was locked and the pet could not get out. When cats anticipate their demise, they try to find themselves outside the house.

If the cause of death is deliberate euthanasia, then the owners, as punishment, will face trouble in all areas of life.

But it also happens that an animal dies suddenly, without any illness. Such a death can have several meanings.

What does it mean?

  • If a family member is to blame for the death of a pet, then you need to prepare for theft. It is possible that not strangers, but close people, will be to blame for this. The investigation will lead nowhere.
  • The death of a cat from household appliances means trouble at work. Threatened with dismissal or reprimands, reports with subsequent explanatory notes.
  • When the cause of death is an accidental fall from a high floor, then you should expect serious quarrels with your spouse, which can lead to divorce.
  • If a beloved pet has been poisoned, then it is better for the owners not to make new friends and refrain from making any changes in life. Anything new will only bring problems.
  • Responsibility for the death of the pet lies with the other animal with whom there was a fight - you should prepare for scandals with friends. If a compromise is not found, the relationship may end there.
  • A pet may die under strange circumstances. For example, falling asleep and not waking up. Such a departure from life indicates the need to cleanse your home of negative energy.

Cats can manipulate people

Cats have a much stronger bond with people than any other pet. They know how not only to bring joy to their owners, but also to manipulate them.

A group of behaviorists from the University of Vienna analyzed the behavior of 41 cats and their owners, and also found out through tests how playful the animals were and how sociable their owners were.

Researchers have determined that cats and people have a strong influence on each other. The greatest mutual understanding was observed in the relationships between extroverted women and young, active animals. For them to communicate successfully, minor hints are enough - for example, a raised tail signals a desire for friendly contact. At the same time, cats skillfully use the love of their owners, in particular, in order to get more food.

Cats and people have a strong bond with each other. “A person and a cat know each other’s inclinations and preferences well. Their relationships are based on mutual attraction, ease of interaction, games, love and social support,” says one of the authors of the study, Dorothy Gracie.

Such relationships are typical for people, but practically never occur in nature. Cats behave like small children who have not yet learned to talk, the researchers say, emphasizing that the results of their work allow us to take a fresh look at these animals.

What to do?

If the owner notices that the animal is behaving unusually: it wants to leave the house, meows loudly - it is better not to hold it and let it go. The cat either wants to die outside the home, or to throw off the negativity and return filled with new strength.

If a dead animal is discovered suddenly, for example after coming home from work, then the pet needs to be buried. It is better to wrap it in cloth and put it in a box.

A new cat should not be adopted until three months old.

Death can come to pets from old age. Then there is no need to carry out any rituals or actions to cleanse the house. With a sudden death, it can be assumed that the entire family has been exposed to negative energy. It might be worth going to church.

Purchase and cost

It is best to purchase kittens at three months of age. By this time, the animal can be checked for compliance with the breed, the characteristic color will appear, and the breeder will be able to characterize the health of the kitten.

Regardless of where you buy the animal, it should not be too cheap. If you are offered to buy a kitten at a price other than the market price, be careful: it may turn out to be a mixed breed or sick.

The price of a Neva masquerade cat differs depending on its class. Pet class animals are intended for home keeping. Breeding class implies the opportunity to engage in breeding. Show class involves participation in exhibitions. Cats in this category are considered the best of their breed. The cost increases in proportion to the increase in class: for the pet and breed class you will have to pay 200-400 dollars, and the cost of the show class is at least 500 dollars. Kittens of the rare red point color are more expensive.

The price of a kitten may also be lower than the market price due to non-compliance with the breed standard. Sometimes a genetic failure occurs, and the animal may not have undercoat or the body proportions do not correspond to the standard. Such cats are subject to mandatory sterilization and are not suitable for breeding, but will do an excellent job as a pet.

Seize the moment

Don't slip away, moment, you are wonderful!
In fact: Seize today, and trust tomorrow as little as possible.

A shortened version of the Latin phrase is often translated into English as “seize the day” and is used to justify spontaneous behavior and impulsive actions as a way to “get everything out of life today” without thinking about what will happen tomorrow. However, this is not a completely correct interpretation of the expression.

The phrase that we think we know and understand so well is actually longer and sounds like “Seize today, and trust tomorrow as little as possible.” The full version of the proverb does not call us to ignore the future, but, on the contrary, advises us to do as much as possible today specifically for the future, to take care of tomorrow today.

The phrase first appeared in the book “Odes” by the Roman poet Horace. Horace often used agricultural metaphors to persuade his fellow citizens to value the present more and not put things off until tomorrow. The poet was also a follower of Epicurus, whose philosophy was based on the idea that there is nothing more important in life than pleasure. This is seen as one of the reasons why later confusion arose with the original meaning of the saying.

Lord Byron quoted Horace in his poem in 1817, and the phrase was made world famous in the 1989 film Dead Poets Society starring Robin Williams.

Today, the original meaning of the phrase has long been forgotten, and the short, sonorous “carpe diem” encourages people to grab opportunities and live life to the fullest, without paying attention to the future.

History of the breed

The Neva Masquerade is considered a subspecies of the Siberian cat - this breed is indigenous, which means it is stronger, healthier and more resilient. There is no consensus on who is “culprit” for the appearance of the color point color among Siberians, but it is believed that representatives of the Siamese or Persian breed are involved.

The masquerade cat appeared relatively recently - in the 80s of the 20th century. Its breeding was carried out in St. Petersburg by members of the Kotofey club under the leadership of Olga Mironova.

In 1988, the first breeders of the breed participated in the exhibition as guests, but not participants. The World Cat Organization recognized the breed only at the end of the 20th century.

Breeders from Moscow continued work on breeding the breed, independently of their colleagues from St. Petersburg. That is why the breed is now available in several colors.

The cat got its name from the river on which the city where the breed was bred is located. It was called masquerade because of its color, which forms on its face something like a carnival or masquerade mask. Just think how symbolic!

The cats are called nevaks for short, and also carnival cats, which also corresponds to its original name.

At the moment, the breed is popular in the CIS countries; nurseries are located in Moscow, St. Petersburg and regional capitals of Russia. The breed is less known abroad, as some organizations perceive the breed as a subspecies of the Siberian cat. However, in our country these fluffy beauties have gained many admirers.

Why are cats so curious?

Cats' curiosity is something innate that stems from their instincts. They love to visit small places, experience new experiences, corners or hiding places, and above all, they love to see the world from the highest position they can reach.

The same goes for altitudes: it's the best way to track your next meal without even noticing it. Therefore, much of your curiosity behavior comes from your hunting instinct.

But what about the curiosity they have for us? How many times have you surprised your cat by looking at you and looking at you like I wanted to ask you questions? This is because we are part of their environment and, like a good hunter, you need to know who is around you.

Although it is said that curiosity killed the cat, it was actually what killed him that was the problem, as in reality, Curiosity is what kept him going for years.

Cats only meow to attract human attention.

The sound "meow" was intended by nature so that little kittens could call their mother. As kittens grow up, they should stop using it. Adult wild cats living in their natural habitat never meow.

In the process of domestication, cats came to the conclusion that their infantile “meow” has the most effective effect on their owners: the sound sounds quite pitiful and loud enough. Meowing has become a universal way of communication between adult cats and cats. Cats do not meow when communicating with each other.

Curiosity killed the cat

It turns out that it is not curiosity that kills the cat.

In fact: Worry killed the cat.

The phrase “curiosity killed the cat” is used as a warning to overly curious individuals. For their own benefit. However, this proverb comes from the words “cares killed the cat,” where “cares” meant “worry” or “sadness.” This line was first noted in Ben Jonson's play Every Man in His Way in 1598. It is believed that William Shakespeare himself played in the troupe of actors who presented the play.

Shakespeare later gave this memorable phrase to his own play, the comedy Much Ado About Nothing.

Three hundred years later, in 1898, the original meaning of the phrase "care has killed the cat" was still in use, and was described in the Brewer's Dictionary of Catchphrases as "A cat has nine lives, but care can deplete even that supply." That same year, the phrase was published in the Galveston Daily, claiming that it meant “Curiosity once killed Thomas the cat.”

By the time the proverb appeared in Eugene O'Neill's 1922 play "Not That Way," the phrase had finally acquired the form and meaning we so often use today.

Health

The Neva Masquerade cat has excellent health. Representatives of the breed have excellent immunity and are not predisposed to most diseases that occur in other purebred cats.

However, non-vaccines may exhibit hereditary hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Unfortunately, the disease does not have pronounced symptoms, so owners find out about its existence when it is too late to treat the animal. Therefore, you need to purchase a kitten only from a trusted breeder, and then regularly undergo examination by a specialist to detect early symptoms. The disease cannot be cured, but maintenance therapy gives excellent results, and cats live for many years.

Licking long and thick fur leads to its entry into the stomach. Because of this, the pet may experience pain, refuse to eat, or try to get rid of the tangles on its own by vomiting. Experts recommend taking note of this feature of cats and periodically giving medications that will help avoid stagnation of hair balls in the body.

A masquerade cat, like any other, needs vaccinations and treatment for parasites and helminths.

Does it take all the trouble out of the home when it “goes to the rainbow”?

Most often, cats leave home to die. Beliefs say that in this way they take away with them all the negativity and troubles of their owners. It is believed that cats have nine lives - they can give one at the time of death to one of the members of their beloved family. For example, if the owner is in serious danger or a fatal disease, then the pet can deliberately throw itself under a car, giving its life in return.

If someone tries to influence the house where the cat lived with the help of dark forces, then the animal can die suddenly, protecting the home and its inhabitants.

Don't be afraid to have pets. Cats can serve as a “manifestation” of negativity in the house, and their sudden death can serve as a warning. It’s worth thinking about whether all your loved ones wish only good things and come to visit in peace. Caring for a pet will always return double benefits to their owners.

The artist showed what the world looks like through the eyes of cats

Many cat owners probably dream of being in the shoes of their pet, at least for a day, to look at the world through his eyes. Although the structure of the visual organs of cats is in many ways similar to that of humans, during the process of evolution, the eyes of cats adapted to specific conditions, so cat vision has its own specifics. Representatives of the cat family have learned to perfectly navigate in low light conditions and sensitively respond to the slightest movements, but for this they had to sacrifice the subtleties of color perception and some other capabilities.

Artist and researcher Nikolai Lamm managed to create a reliable model that makes it possible to imagine how cats see the surrounding reality.

Nikolay Lamm

When creating this model, Nikolai took into account a variety of factors: for example, the breadth of peripheral vision - in cats it is 30 degrees on each side, but a person can boast only 20, thus, the total breadth of vision in cats is 200 degrees (in humans 180). But we see much further - a person is able to clearly distinguish objects at a distance of about 30 meters, while it is difficult for a cat to see an object if it is located more than seven meters from it.

Also, a cat's eye does not perceive brown, red and orange colors well, but sees blue and yellow perfectly. Thanks to a larger number of special photoreceptors in their eyes, cats see in the dark 6-8 times better than humans - this ability allows wild felines to hunt at night.

By the way, cat's eyes have an interesting feature that many have probably noticed: in the dark they emit an unusual phosphorescent glow, this is due to the presence of reflective pigment in the tapetum - the layer of tissue behind the retina.

Children should be seen but not heard

The principle of education comes from the 15th century

Few people know that the original version of the famous Old English proverb called not for children, but for young girls, to be “quieter than water.” It was they who were ordered to remain silent in medieval society.

The phrase first appears in the collected sermons of John Myrke, a 15th-century Augustinian priest, and is prefaced with the word “sawe,” a medieval term for a catchphrase.

To better understand why today we say “children” instead of “maiden,” it’s worth taking a closer look at the word “mayde”, which was used in the original version of the proverb. Today, when we say "maiden", we are talking about a young, unmarried woman, but in the 15th century the word was used for women of any age and status, as well as for children and celibate men.

Reviews

I propose to consider the reviews of the owners of the Neva Masquerade cat and learn more about the breed. All reviews are taken from the Otzovik website.

Great friend

The author of the first review fondly remembers her cat Alice, who lived with the family for 12 years. The pet gave no reason to complain: she respected tasty food, quickly learned to use the tray, and did not spoil things or furniture. She was selective with food and also moderately playful. The author notes that the cat did not show aggression towards strangers and children, loved its owners very much and became the best friend for family members.

Friendly and curious cat

The author of this review talks about buying a cat from a cattery. The animal quickly settled into the apartment and became familiar with the rules of the house. There are no problems with manners: the cat goes to the litter box, uses a scratching post and toys to demonstrate the hunting instinct. The author says that the pet is careful with children and strangers. The cat values personal space and independence, but does not deny its owner affection.

Hyperactive pet

The excellent third review practically repeats everything said about the breed above. The author says that the cat’s activity and intelligence are on the same level. The animal loves outdoor games, explores all places in the house and, thanks to its intelligence, understands the actions it needs (for example, it opens the door on its own). The author also notes the talkativeness of the pet, which communicates both with family members and with the birds outside the window.
