  • Charming white cats with blue eyes: choosing a breed

If a child asks his mother for a white cat with blue eyes, it means that his soul strives for the beautiful, the sublime and is full of good intentions. This is exactly the impression of purity and perfection that the angelic cat gives upon first meeting. Ancient dream books describe a dream with a white cat as a harbinger of success in business, meeting a good person, reconciliation after a quarrel and receiving good news. Beautiful white cats have long been kept in their homes by those who wanted to scare away evil spirits and protect the house from damage.

If a child asks his mother for a white cat with blue eyes, it means that his soul strives for beauty.

If you plan to breed cats or show your purebred pet at exhibitions, then you should take into account that the eye color of all breeds must match the color of the coat, with the exception of those that are allowed to participate in exhibitions with any eye color. These include such recognized breeds as the Manx, Scottish Fold, Rex and some others.

Turkish Angora: characteristics of the breed

There are various breeds of white cats, but perhaps the most famous of them is the Turkish Angora - a harmoniously built, flexible and graceful animal with large, almond-shaped, wide-open eyes, set somewhat obliquely. Originally, this type of cat was only white with blue, orange, green, amber, yellow or different colored eyes.

There are various breeds of white cats, but perhaps the most famous of them is the Turkish Angora.

The tail of this beauty is much longer than that of other breeds, resembles a peacock feather and can reach the shoulders.

This breed was formed in Turkey, where it is still highly valued today. Cats with different eyes are especially valued, despite the fact that white Angoras with different-colored eyes are deaf in the ear on the same side as the blue eye.

The Turkish Angora is considered one of the most valuable cat breeds, and it has a gentle and affectionate character, calm and friendly. A white cat of this breed can cost from 360 to 900 dollars, depending on the place of purchase and the appearance of the animal.

Cat health

Siamese cats often have genetically determined developmental defects:

  • strabismus, impaired quality of vision;
  • amyloidosis – disruptions in protein metabolism;
  • bronchial asthma and calcivirosis;
  • heart defects;
  • knots, hooks and kinks at the end of the tail;
  • narrowing of the esophagus; adenocarcinoma; respiratory cancer.

It is important to pay attention to the health of your pet. It is imperative to vaccinate on time and periodically visit the veterinarian for preventive examinations.

Cats of this breed may develop an allergic reaction caused by cigarette smoke, aerosols, food, or insect bites. It is necessary to regularly carry out antiparasitic treatment of wool and deworming.

The female becomes sexually mature at the age of 1 year. She carries kittens for 64 days. If you do not plan to breed the animal, it is recommended to sterilize or castrate it after it becomes sexually mature.

When purchasing such a pet, you need to pay attention to the availability of documents - pedigree, veterinary passport, medical certificate of vaccinations. Pay attention to the kitten's habits. He should be playful, active and curious.

Signs and superstitions

Snow-white cats, perhaps, do not have as many conjectures and prejudices as black cats have. All signs and superstitions about white cats are positive:

  1. A stray cat with white fur brings good news and change.
  2. Such a cat is able to protect the house from the evil eye and all evil spirits.
  3. In some countries, a white cat is considered a mascot. People keep such animals in their homes because they believe that they bring good luck and prosperity.
  4. Girls who want you to get married as soon as possible should place 7 snow-white kittens in good hands.
  5. Women are advised to keep a cat with different colored eyes at home if she wants to remain attractive to men.
  6. If a white cat gets in the way of the newlyweds, they will have a happy and long life together.
  7. If a white cat crosses the road, you should make a wish.
  8. Snow-white murki collect negative energy, relieve stress, and guarantee success in any endeavor.

Such animals balance the psyche, normalize the functioning of internal organs, enhance brain activity, and eliminate depression. At least that's what scientists say.

Scottish lop-eared

A blue-eyed Scottish kitten is the dream of any breeder or just a cat lover. The eye color of kittens is determined primarily by color and, of course, heredity. Celestial blue eyes are a virtue found in both dominant white and albino kittens.

It is curious that the white color itself is simply the absence of color and the suppression of all the colors of other genes that the animal carries.

A blue-eyed Scottish kitten is the dream of any breeder or just a cat lover

The blue-eyed Scottish Fold cat (Scottish Fold) is highly valued because it is rare and somewhat unique. Her snow-white skin of a surprisingly even shiny color without any yellowness, combined with her hanging ears, evokes associations with innocence and insecurity.

The Scottish Fold cat is white with blue eyes and looks like a small charming child who you want to cherish and protect.

If the kitten had blue or black ancestors in the family, then the Scotsman may have a few dark spots on the head, but with age the fur lightens and eventually becomes completely snow-white. A Scotsman's eyes can also be amber; there are also cats with different eyes. The great advantage of this species is its gentle disposition, lack of conflict, ability to compromise, affection and gentleness, which makes it possible for them to live together with both children and the elderly.

The influence of genetics on cat color

The color of fur and eyes depends on the work of the melanin pigment. It affects the state of the genes responsible for color located on the X chromosome. In order for a kitten of the desired color to be born, parents with the necessary genetics and suitable X chromosomes are selected.

The set of X and Y chromosomes is different in males and females. Cats carry single X and Y chromosomes, while cats have two X chromosomes. They are responsible for three main colors: red, black, tortoiseshell.

Melanocytes are responsible for eye color in cats. A certain norm of these cells gives the traditional green color. An increased content of cells gives a brown tint to the iris of the eyes, but their deficiency gives a blue tint. Moreover, the hue or saturation varies from deep aquamarine to sky blue.

British and Persian

The muscular and squat Briton has the largest palette of eye shades: from blue to dark copper, and in a white cat with different eyes, one eye can be blue and the other gold.

However, blue eyes in representatives of this species are quite rare. The animal is balanced, devoted to its owner and can become a true friend, although it behaves somewhat coldly and does not like encroachments on its freedom. Its plush soft skin and puffy cheeks make it look like a teddy bear.

Persians can also be snow-white and blue-eyed, although standard Persians have the right to 3 eye color options: blue, orange and different, when one eye is blue and the other is orange.

Considering the length of Persian hair and the white color of the coat, you need to understand how long it will take to care for such an animal, and what a labor-intensive process it is. But Persians do not cause any other trouble: they are phlegmatic, even lazy, and lie calmly in one place for hours.

What determines the white-blue-eyed combination?

The culprit, if you can call the unusual beautiful combination of eye color and coat color, is the melanocyte pigment. A high percentage of this substance gives the eyes a green or brown color. In this case, the percentage of melanocyte content is low, since its paired gene “worked hard” for the snow-white coat color. As a result, there is not enough pigment for eye color.

Interesting! Albino cats should not be confused with representatives of snow-white breeds. Albino animals lack color genes. Albino cats are extremely rare: one animal per 10,000 cats.

Khao Mani breed: distinctive features

The snow-white cat from Thailand, called Khao Mani, or diamond eye, has a very ancient pedigree. It is easier to care for such a cat than a Persian, because it is a short-haired breed. This species got its name because of the special cut of the eyes - they are brightly outlined and shine like diamonds. Although according to the standard the color of the eyes should be gray-blue, individuals with green and yellow eyes, as well as different colors, are now increasingly appearing.

Very few people will be able to purchase a cat with different eyes of the Khao Mani breed, since its cost is one of the ten most expensive breeds in the world. In addition, the breed itself is very rare, although it is now found not only in Thailand, but also in other countries.

It is better not to get this cat for those people who are rarely at home, because she does not like loneliness and does not tolerate it well. In character, cats of this species are closest to Siamese.

Colors

The body of the Siamese should be white to cream, it must be in harmony with the shade of the markings. Eyes with greens, light stripes and ears that differ from other markings are considered defects.

It is important to know that these animals can change the color of their skin depending on the temperature around them. At higher levels they become lighter and vice versa. It's not good if the body is too dark, you want the contrast to be clear between the markings and it. Such features depend on heredity, hormones, and also on the conditions of detention - if kittens live in a cool room, they darken. The following point colors are considered the most common among Siamese:

  • Strength,
  • Blue,
  • Red,
  • Tabby.

Point is a marking; in creatures of the described breed, this is the name given to the markings on the ears, feet, tail and face. Color point is an acromelanic color, depending on the warmth of the external environment and the body of the animal. It appears only a month after birth and can change, for example, if a cat sleeps on the windowsill, the side in which the wind blows darkens.

The gene for this color is recessive, so if you want kittens with beautiful contrasting legs and tail, it is important that both parents look the same.

If one of them is monochromatic, then the kids will go to it, although some may end up in the second one. With age, cats darken, but this also happens from food - do not give them carrots, seaweed and anything that contains iodine and copper. In addition, the fur is darker on scars and scratches, so if you had to have surgery, keep the area warm until it heals completely. Let's take a closer look at the most common colors.

Seal Point

This is the most common color of pets of this species. Almost everyone associates it with the Siamese. He is known to the mass audience thanks to the cartoon “Lady and the Tramp”, there were two cats of this color.

It is characterized by dark brown markings that look almost black, while the belly and breast are the lightest cream color.

The feet look as if they are wearing gloves, and the pads on them are brown, with a reddish undertone, just like the nose. The eyes of such individuals are clean and dark blue, shiny. The sides and back are light fawn in color, spots are not allowed. Black and gray should also not be present.

Blue Point

It is so called because it may appear blue, although it is actually snowy white. The fur is darker on the chest and belly, the pads of the feet and nose are grey.

The darkening on the paws, ears and face is grayish-blue, the eyes of such pets are bright blue. The snow-whiteness of their skin turns gray-bluish. There is a clear boundary between the marks and the main tone; they clearly contrast. If a cat does not have stripes from the eyes to the ears, this is considered a defect; it is also prohibited for the skin to have blue, fawn or cream basic tones.

There are tortoiseshell creatures: blue-torty-point. They have a white chest, belly and neck, this color gradually turns into cream and light blue. Stripes may be present, the pads and nose are either blue or pink, the eyes are bright blue, and there may be a white star on the forehead. It is important that the markings and base color do not include a dark blue tone.

Red point

These purrs have a light apricot skin; on the chest and belly it is almost white, but on the back and sides it is richer. The limbs and mask are golden-red.

It is acceptable for the spots to have stripes, as well as specks on the ears, face, lips and eyelids, and also on the pads.

The beauties' eyes are blue and bright, and their pillows and nose are pink.

It is believed that the first cat of this color was a certain “salmon” animal that lived in one thousand eight hundred and eighty-eight.

Tobby point

They really stand out from the crowd - instead of standard solid points, they are marked with stripes, and they can be different. Depending on this, the following animals are found:

  • Seal tabby point with black stripes,
  • Blue tabby point, when the markings are bluish-gray,
  • Red tabby point if the stripes are red and gold.

The letter “M” is clearly visible on the forehead of all individuals of this type, there are stripes on the fur around the eyes, and spots near the whiskers. The front paws seem to be covered with rings that start from the toes and go up. There are contrasting stripes on the thighs, and the fur on the back of the hind legs is uniform. The ears are also uniform, but on the outside they are decorated with a light spot. The tail is ringed, the nose is pink, outlined along the main contour.

Ticked

The Siamese point color is sometimes confused with the ticked color, but this is a completely different phenomenon. The fact is that it appears not because of temperature differences, but because of ordinary stripes on the animal’s fur.

Each hair has several shades, two or three, so it seems that the whole skin is in play of color. From different angles you get a different hair tone. The tips of the axial hairs are darker, and the undercoat and belly, chest and inner side of the legs are uniform in color.

There are brindle, marbled, spotted, zone or patchwork patterns. This is beautiful, but it depends on completely different genes and is not acceptable for Siamese.

Remember that when choosing a kitten, you need to pay attention not only to color. If you want to take prizes with him at shows, make sure that his bite is correct, his chin is normally developed, there is no green in his eyes, there is no squint or pigmentation of the nose and pads. A white finger automatically makes a cat unsuitable for showing. And, of course, it’s not just about beauty - when choosing a new family member, it is important to take into account his character and whether sympathy has arisen between you!

Russian white

The Russian white cat first appeared in Australia from crossing a Siberian white cat with a blue cat. The result was a breed of Russian White cat, with velvety dense short hair, a graceful body, excellent health and blue eyes. Russian Whites do not require much attention, unlike Khao Mani, they easily tolerate loneliness, are calm and peaceful.

When choosing a white kitten with blue eyes, rustle a piece of paper behind him to understand whether he hears or not, however, even if the cat’s hearing is not all right, this will not prevent him from enjoying all the joys of life, since nature has endowed him with sight, smell and touch, as well as the highest sensitivity to sound vibrations.

And he will be able to take full advantage of all this if he has a kind and loving owner.

Foreign white care

Foreigners' ears are large. They often accumulate earwax and dirt. Clean your ears weekly with cotton wool or cotton pads. Buy a special lotion at the pharmacy for cleaning animal ears.
