Manufacturer
The manufacturer of Whiskas feed is MARS. The brand first appeared in 1958 in the UK, quickly became popular, and has been producing animal food for more than 60 years. The management does not skimp on advertising, over all this time it has developed several types of both dry and wet food, and is opening more and more factories in different parts of the world (including in Russia: in Rostov-on-Don and in the Moscow region).
Feed was first brought to Russia from Germany in 1992, and 2 years later the first production was opened in the Stupinsky district of the Moscow region. In 2000, spiders appeared on the market.
The company has been engaged in charitable activities for a long time. In addition to helping homeless animals in shelters, the company helps implement projects in the field of pet nutrition.
Feed class
Whiskas is an economy class cat food. In the first place in the list of ingredients are cereals, corn, and sometimes they even write “products of plant origin,” without specifying what is hidden under this. Plant ingredients are the main source of protein in the feed of this species.
Residues from meat production are included under the names “poultry meal”, “animal meal”, “meat derivatives”. Manufacturers claim that their product contains a unique balanced formula of carbohydrates, fats and proteins, citing approval from the International Center for Animal Nutrition and the Russian Association of Veterinary Practitioners.
The cost of a pack of food weighing 350 grams is approximately 70 rubles. Wet ones cost a little more. You can buy Whiskas in almost any store.

Whiskas wet cat food - reviews

Advantages:
No pros
Flaws:
Shortens the life of cats.
I do not advise anyone to feed their pets this food! If you want your cat to live a long time and not get sick, then avoid using this food. May cause urolithiasis, liver and kidney damage. On average, cats live 12-15 years, rarely live to 20-25, but if a cat consumes Whiskas, life is reduced to 8-10 years, and even less. I know from my own bitter experience. And there’s a lot of things they don’t let into this food, a very strong spicy smell, as if they put a bunch of chemicals in there. Yes, and it is addictive in cats; my cat, for example, simply did not want to eat anything else except Whiskas. I don’t feed my pet Whiskas anymore.

Advantages:
Cats like it
Flaws:
Has a strange effect on the animal, causing abnormal activity
I gave this cat food to my “master” infrequently - only when there was no other food... and there were reasons for this. As soon as he ate this “whisky”, the cat immediately became “mad”, uncontrollable: he began to jump, meow and climb everywhere, and even tried to bite (although he is usually very calm). I don’t know what they add there, but clearly there is something there to keep the “cat in great shape.” In general, this product seemed very dubious to me!

Advantages:
There is none of them!
Flaws:
By feeding this rubbish, you are ruining your pets!
My husband and I decided to get a kitten. We took him in when he was very young, he was about 2 months old at the time. They fed only milk! When the cat grew up, he began to eat everything: fish, meat, and much more. When my husband and I came to the grocery store once again, we came across a display case with cat food and decided to take a couple of bags of liquid food and a box of dry food. We wanted to pamper the cat, because we heard from many that they feed their pets Whiskas and they love it so much. We couldn't even imagine where this would lead us. We fed all this food, the cat was of course happy, he really liked the treat. A day has passed, and we cannot understand anything, why our pet does not eat anything, all his food, which he ate constantly, is not even touched. I already thought that he was sick. He will approach the bowl, sniff, meow and leave. The next day everything is the same. I called a friend, she has already 3 cats, I thought maybe she would give some advice. Her words, of course, surprised me very much, but still. She said to give him another bag of food and see if he will eat. There was nothing else to do, I decided to try. My husband bought a bag, I gave it to him and couldn’t believe my eyes, he ate everything, and so quickly that I was simply horrified. Since then, our pet has been eating only Whiskas cat food, and he doesn’t eat food from other companies either, only this one.
On this diet, the cat began to grow and gain weight very quickly. Now he is 4 years old, he is so fat that he is already rolling from side to side. It is very difficult for him with such weight. Vomiting began to appear from time to time, all this food came out, after this he didn’t eat anything for the whole day, but just lay there so sad, he didn’t even get up. I tried to wean him off Whiskas. It’s all useless! He didn’t eat anything for three days that I didn’t give him, it was all in vain. He waited until they gave him this poison again, there’s no other way to call it.
Whiskas Cat Food contains so much crap that when you read the ingredients, you begin to wonder what kind of ingredients they are and whether it’s even edible. It’s just a pity that we are starting to think about this very late. It seems to me that everything is there except meat and vitamins.
I once consulted with a doctor, after everything he told me, I was simply horrified. This is truly a poison that manifests its properties gradually and little by little. There are some substances added to the food that cause this very addiction; cats and kittens are simply dependent on it, like a drug addict on a dose. When it is consumed, the entire body of the animal is destroyed, slowly, imperceptibly. If you fail to wean the cat from its habit, then its lifespan will clearly be more than half as long as it should be.
Of course, I was very upset, the doctor’s words really scared me, I came home and told my husband everything. They started trying, giving meat mixed with food, and each time the portion of food decreased. We struggled with this for more than a month, but in the end, everything worked out. We don’t buy cat food anymore, everything is back to normal. The cat now arrives in excellent shape, eats only natural products and no chemicals.

Hi all.
I recently read a story here about how dry food can kill an animal, not right away, but over the years, quietly corroding from the inside... And it’s all because of cheap dry food.
I admit, I also buy food - I have dry Brit Care - I really liked this brand in liquid form. But I give 5 pads a day... as a treat and encouragement.
And also, I buy wet pouch food, like Whiskas, but I give it to her once a month - one pack, if I haven’t had time to prepare her porridge.
I want to pamper my cat with something unusual, and Whiskas packages are filled with delicious ingredients - rabbit, turkey, game...
This time I bought Whiskas - spider jelly with rabbit and vegetables.
A little digression - I try everything that I give to my cat... well, excuse me... just a pea-sized piece of whiskey. I won’t die, but I will also know what I feed my animal.
Allegedly, mostly meat and offal, and supposedly even rabbit is present.
I don’t believe at all that there is good meat here, and indeed whether there is any here at all, especially rabbit.
The maximum here is meat products that are unsuitable for humans or expired, or fresh offal, all sorts of things - wings, paws, tails))
In appearance, these are small pads of compressed unknown substance in a cloudy jelly... there are inclusions of carrots and this is probably the most natural thing in this food).
Whiskas smells like ordinary meat stew...
The pads are brown in color - they taste fresh and not tasty... with grains of sand, as if a whole chicken was ground here with feathers and legs with sand on which it wandered). There are no pieces of meat visible.
However, the cat simply goes crazy when he hears the rustling of the bag.
Moreover, if she hasn’t eaten the whole empty packet, then she won’t come near him anymore... The food almost instantly stales, and a day later it turns into stinking crackers.
I don’t recommend Whiskas wet food... especially for every day... it’s like store-bought dumplings - a snack when you have absolutely nothing to eat))
And the best food that I have seen is Brit Care - namely Kare, because Brit Premium in bags is the same Whiskas. And the series of racks are real pieces of meat or fish. I generally respect products where it is clear what they are made from).

There is one, you most likely know about it exclusively from chocolates. This company produces the following feeds: Whiskas, Kiteket, Pedigree, Chappie. This is the most popular animal food among ordinary people. The population judges them solely by television advertising. In more professional areas, opinion was developed quite a long time ago, and a completely definite one was developed. There are the most terrible, most poisonous foods for animals - Whiskas and Kiteket for cats, these are economy class food, although in terms of price I would classify Whiskas as premium, but in terms of quality they are not even economy.
The main diseases from Whiskas: terrible dermatitis: rashes, hair loss, inflammation of the anal glands, scratching over a huge area, suppuration, etc.; gastrointestinal disorders: diarrhea, constipation, colitis, enteritis, gastritis, etc.; various allergies; renal failure; pancreatitis; terrible liver diseases.
Think about it! First, we want to pamper the cat with something tasty or simply save money and time on feeding the pet, and then we spend a lot of money on clinics, on veterinarians who cannot figure out what happened to the animal, on all these tests... But how in Is this the time when an animal suffers?! and from our own care...
My cat, like probably many others, began to be capricious when it came to food and the only thing she ate with pleasure was whiskey. Then I didn’t yet know what it was. The cat was thin and hungry all the time. She did not recognize any other food. Soon she began to go to the toilet with difficulty, screaming, and bleeding. Doctors could not make a diagnosis, but everything was obvious - not proper nutrition. The cat died...
Feeding your cat these foods is about the same as switching exclusively to hamburgers, chips and cola.

ATTENTION! Very great review. Just a cry from the heart!! ))
I got my cat when I was 9 years old. I don't even remember myself without him. I adore him like crazy. And now I am very ashamed that I, a stupid little one, trusted my parents in matters of feeding the cat and did not pay attention to the warning signs (It’s a pity that at that time there was no Internet and the necessary information…..).
At first he ate everything! Then Whiskas appeared on sale and everyone decided that it was much easier than straight. As a result, after 2-3 feedings of this food, the cat refused to eat anything else. The cat got hooked (like a drug addict, really). As soon as he saw the purple packaging, he heard its rustling immediately with wild eyes, a tail like a pipe and a long, loud MEOW! I always thought that he loves him sincerely and this is the best food for him, because cats won’t eat crap. At first he ate dry food, then when he began to get old he gave it up, apparently the strain on his teeth became too much for him, so he switched to canned food. And so on for 15 years. Of course, from time to time we gave him fish, milk, and fresh meat. But the basis of nutrition is Whiskas. He ate 3-4 sachets (350g) a day and weighed only 3 kilos. We were glad that he had a good appetite. Yes, and on the packaging it was written that this is the norm. The cat vomited almost every 14 days. I thought that this was cleansing the stomach of his fur (which he swallows when washing). But sometimes it was just liquid. Sometimes immediately after eating everything would come back. Sometimes there really was fur. I didn't pay much attention to it.
The problems began when he was 16 years old. He suddenly stopped eating Whiskas... Completely. After 2 days, he didn’t want any other food, even his most delicious treats like yogurt. I lost a lot of weight. I slept all the time and stopped playing. The face was sad. I immediately sounded the alarm and rushed to the vet.
And surprises awaited me there.
Firstly. Ultrasound and biochemistry showed that all organs are normal (of course, according to age), only the kidneys are reduced, but they work normally. Isn't this a miracle!!
Secondly, some kind of neoplasm, 3 by 3 cm, appeared inside him. Tests showed that it should not be cancer, but how this thing will behave in the future is not clear. We'll keep an eye on it. Whether this is because of Whiskas or not, I don’t know. But the fact remains a fact.
Thirdly, very irritable intestines. The cat was clearly in pain. He constantly sat with his belly on the cold floor and hardly slept.
After my cats were thoroughly abused at the veterinary hospital and sent home to receive further treatment, I read a huge amount of information about feeding cats and about Whiskas as well. The horror that gripped me is impossible to describe. HOW???! How could my cat live for so many years on this rubbish???!! I didn’t even think that such a G could be allowed for production and sale! Cats are simply zombified with this food, adding something to it that makes them think it’s tasty. Although the composition is simply disgusting!
I encourage everyone who cares about your pet! Think about what you feed him! Don't repeat my mistakes. If you already have a pet, do not spare money on good food. Read on the Internet what and how to feed cats correctly. Don’t let them eat things that are harmful to them (the list of foods is huge! Human food is NOT allowed from the table!). And always repeat to yourself - “20 years, 20 years”! After all, this is how long a cat can live with proper care and feeding. and delight with your presence in your life.
Now my cat is sleeping. This is the 5th day of treatment. There is a slight improvement. I drink it with chamomile decoction, kefir, chicken broth, and give him baby meat puree. I don't know what will happen next and whether he will survive. If so, then I will only buy good, expensive food for him. I am very sorry that I found out so late about WHAT I was feeding my cat. I blame myself, but I hope that in the 5 years that we have left I will be able to rehabilitate myself and please him with really tasty and healthy food)
If only he could survive...

How I got to Whiskas (and a little about my cat’s diet):
Our first trip to the vet happened the day after I took the animal home. Having given the necessary vaccinations, the veterinarian gave recommendations regarding feeding. It was Pro Plan Delicate food. The doctor warned against buying Whiskas, Kitiket, etc., but noted that wet food of these brands can be given. Then, and this was almost six years ago, I became interested - why not? After all, there are so many advertisements, happy and funny cats constantly appear on TV, and most importantly - inexpensive. Being an amateur in this matter, I was sure that all the cats in the world eat Whiskas. I surfed the Internet and found a lot of negative information. But I remembered that wet food is possible.
In principle, Pro Plan is completely suitable for the cat, plus from time to time I feed him beef or chicken fillet. For six years, I sometimes bought him wet Whiskey. Not often, but once a month for sure. Usually the cat licked all the liquid, but did not eat the pieces. I considered it a waste of money, because half of the “yummy” food had to be thrown into the trash.
Somehow I came across a new product - Meat Pate. And I took one pack to try. The cat dealt with the contents quickly. And I liked his happy face and empty bowl. "Here it is!!! — I thought — Bingo!!! We need to take more!! ". And I already brought home 10 packs of pate. She “treated” him in the morning, and at subsequent meals she gave him Pro Plan.
After a short time, the cat began to refuse meat and dry food. He threw tantrums at me near the shelf where the Pate stood. He lay in wait for me there, rubbing himself against my legs, screaming heart-rendingly: “Yessss!!! ". And I didn't eat anything else. What was happening really alarmed me, I started reading reviews and looking at forums. And my hair stood on end. It turned out that under the guise of “complete” food in a purple package with a cute cat’s face - real waste (feathers, horns, hooves, chicken paws, bone meal), flavor enhancers and only 4% meat. The pate smells so bad it makes my mouth full of drool, I could just spread it on bread. Of course, food without enhancers cannot smell like that... How I reproached myself and still reproach myself for my irresponsibility and ignorance.
My actions further: the remaining Pate was photographed and thrown into the trash. The first three days were hard. My intelligent pet behaved hysterically, hovered around the place of pate deposits, shouted “Meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee with so brazenly, I couldn’t even believe that it was my cat. Occasionally he would approach the bowl of Pro Plan and leave. My heart was bleeding. About the fourth day the cat began to eat again. At first little by little, then I pushed myself as before. He also began to show interest in meat.
Conclusion: in general, this seemingly nightmare situation served as the impetus for a total educational program regarding the animal’s nutrition. It turned out that the vaunted Pro Plan is not so good. Our city is small, there are only two veterinary clinics, and the would-be specialists cannot really advise anything. It’s good that there are similar sites where animal owners exchange opinions, give recommendations, and share experiences. Thank you all so much for this!!!!
I learned a lot about holistic foods and have already bought one to try. I’m gradually introducing it into the cat’s diet. So far so good and I hope it stays that way.
Compound
The first place most often comes from grain crops: corn, corn gluten, ground wheat, wheat flour. Next - flour of animal origin: turkey, meat and bone, poultry, rabbit, lamb. The percentage is often indicated, but what parts of the animal or bird are used is hidden.
Protein plant extracts are listed as a separate item. By-products are added, but in addition to kidneys, spleen, lungs and other things, they also include hooves, horns, whole heads, fat, i.e. not the most useful ingredients. Animal fat is often unspecified. There is a minimal amount of vegetables, yeast, vitamins and minerals, there are no fruits and berries at all, all preservatives are synthetic.
Wet food includes residues from meat production that cannot be used for human consumption. These are tendons, ligaments, internal organs, etc. The amount of grains is not indicated (and corn often causes food allergies). There is taurine, individual vitamins and minerals.
Unlike other countries, in Russia there is no legal act obliging the publication of the full composition of food on the packaging (for example, such a law is in force in the USA). Therefore, it would be a good idea to check the information on the official website.
Benefits and harms of Whiskas food for cats
Economy class feeds cause a lot of controversy regarding their quality. However, the demand for such products (especially if we are talking about widely advertised products) is not decreasing. Cat owners still buy Whiskas, although this food has plenty of analogues. Those cat owners who have been feeding their pets Whiskas for many years, and people who are just about to make their choice, should objectively evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of this product. After all, store-bought food should be ideal for your cat.
Situations often occur when the owner carefully studies the packaging before purchasing food, chooses the best option, making sure that the chosen food meets all the pet’s requirements. And after some time it becomes clear that something has gone wrong - either the cat is not feeling well, or diarrhea has begun, or even completely - the animal has developed an allergy.
There is such a thing as individual intolerance. The food may be the best in the world, but it was not suitable for this particular animal. It’s like, for example, someone drinks milk and it’s normal, but someone has a complete intolerance, but you must agree that milk, in fact, does not make it bad.

Before purchasing cat food, weigh its pros and cons.
Advantages and disadvantages
The advantages of Whiskas food include the following factors:
- affordable price;
- satiety (you can choose a food option that is higher in calories);
- wide range (you can choose cat food taking into account taste preferences);
- availability of special food (for sterilized, long-haired cats, etc.);
- Whiskas is aromatic, so cats eat it with great appetite.
However, in addition to the advantages, Whiskas also has disadvantages:
- presence of artificial additives;
- cats may become “addicted”;
- unclear wording of the ingredients in the composition;
- Some components are not listed at all.
It turns out that this food has approximately the same number of pros and cons. Veterinarians believe that chemical additives provoke the formation of cancer, have a bad effect on the kidneys, etc. But this can also be looked at from the other side: preservatives do not allow the product to spoil as long as possible, dyes and flavors increase appetite, etc. Therefore whether to choose such food or not is a purely personal matter for each cat owner.
“Your pussy would buy whiskey” - this slogan is the basis of food advertising, but owners and veterinarians sometimes disagree with this
In our family, we treat this issue leniently. After all, it also happens that the most expensive food causes, for example, allergies. And some cats eat cheap food all their lives and live a long time. If a husband goes to the store, he can call and ask, “Should the cat take glutamate?” Of course, all this is a joke. It's just that Whiskas really enjoys controversial fame. Its name alone is almost synonymous with all feeds. For example, when making a shopping list, my sister writes “whiskey,” although her cat only eats Pro Plan.
At first glance, the composition of Whiskas food is bad only because it contains low protein and high fat content. But Whiskas added a lot of taurine and even glucosamine and chondroitin - an important component for maintaining joints and connective tissue. True, this is relevant for humans, but a cat does not need such supplements. But it's not the pussy that buys Whiskas!

Reviews from veterinarians
Not all veterinarians say that food is disgusting. I am a veterinary DOCTOR (not a veterinarian). Whiskas is disgusting. But there are high-quality dry food that can provide your pet with everything he needs. I have 6 cats and 2 dogs. Proper feeding from the table is difficult - many nuances must be taken into account and the animal’s needs for proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals must be known.

Video: veterinarian’s opinion on Whiskas food
There are also veterinarians who have nothing against Whiskas. True, there are very few such veterinarians.
Some people live happily ever after on Whiskas. In general, besides Whiskas and Friskas (which are economy class), there are a lot of more worthy and healthy foods, try giving the kitten something else to choose from.

Advantages and disadvantages
- Whiskas food is easy to buy: in a specialized pet store, in a supermarket, and even in a small grocery store. The owner of the animal will be able to find him without any problems.
- Cheapness is another plus. Whiskas is one of the most budget-friendly brands that is accessible to almost anyone.
- The manufacturer offers several types of Whiskas food for sale, so from the wide range you will always find food for even the most capricious cat. There are also 2 separate special groups of food: for older cats, as well as sterilized and neutered. Feeds have different taste characteristics.
- The food in this line always smells good and is attractive to cats.
- Animal flour can hide anything, and it doesn’t have to be meat. Often ground skin, bones, feathers and fluff are added to the food. The goal is simple: to reduce the cost of production.
- Artificial components. Unlike holistic food, economy class food contains unnatural flavors and preservatives.
There are endless debates surrounding this food: some praise it and consider it quite suitable, others categorically demand that it be discontinued. The decision is up to you as the owner. You can understand whether a given food is suitable for your cat by its behavior and state of health. If your pet doesn't have watery eyes, diarrhea or constipation, or indigestion, and if he's still playful and active, everything is fine. But it is still not recommended to constantly feed animals with economy food.

Whiskas is an economy class food and this is exactly what you need to know about it. The food contains a small amount of meat, and its absence is compensated by specially prepared vegetable proteins and carbohydrates, which, if portion sizes and diet are not followed, can cause a number of diseases. It’s also not worth demonizing food. The Whiskas brand belongs to a corporation with huge capacities and a rich history of producing animal feed. All Whiskas food products are tested and tested for toxicity and only after their safety is confirmed are they put on the shelf. However, it is better to opt for higher quality feeds, such as Arden Grange or Perfect Fit.
Whatever food you choose, follow the storage rules for dry and wet food.
