Cats are active and curious animals. Unfortunately, they are at risk of developing diseases that are accompanied by inflammatory processes. Lack of proper care for your four-legged friend leads to various ailments.
As a result, pathology may develop, which is mainly caused by pathogenic microorganisms. Inflammatory processes can be complex or local. If you start the inflammation process, you can detect suppuration, decomposition of the tissue system and damage to the basic functions of the body.
In most cases, the immune system of a furry animal is not able to overcome the infection on its own. The salvation for the animal will be the introduction of antibacterial and anti-inflammatory drugs. One of the best medications that can be used to rid a cat of an infection is Ciprovet.
Why use Ciprovet medications for cats?
Ophthalmic solution of ciprofloxacin in the form of the drug Ciprovet eye drops

Ciprovet eye drops are used to treat conjunctivitis in cats. Ciprofloxacin is part of a special class of antibiotics - fluoroquinolones. It works by killing bacteria that cause infection.

How should I use this medicine?
Ciprovet eye drops for cats are available in the form of a solution for application to the eye membrane. Cyprovet ophthalmic solution is usually used frequently, from once every 15 minutes to once every 4 hours, while the cat is awake for 7-14 days or longer (up to 1 month). Use Ciprovet eye drops at about the same time every day. Follow the directions in your veterinary prescription carefully, and ask your veterinarian or pharmacist for clarification of any questions you do not understand. Use Ciprovet Ophthalmic Solution exactly as directed. Do not use more or less of the treatment, or use it more often than prescribed by your doctor.
You should expect your cat's symptoms to improve during treatment. Call your veterinarian if your pet's symptoms persist or worsen, or if other eye problems develop during treatment.
Use Ciprovet eye drops
until you finish the course of treatment, even if your cat feels better. If you stop using Cyprovet drops or tablets too early, the infection may recur and the bacteria may become resistant to antibiotics.
To administer Ciprvet eye drops to your cat, follow these steps:
- Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water.
- Check the dropper tip to make sure it is not chipped or cracked.
- Avoid touching the tip of the cat's eye dropper; Eye drops and bottles must be kept clean.
- With your cat's head tilted back, use your index finger to lower the lower eyelid of the eye to form a pocket.
- Hold the dropper (tip down) with your other hand as close to your eye as possible without touching it.
- Press the remaining fingers of this hand towards the muzzle.
- Squeeze the dropper so that one drop falls into the lower eyelid pocket. Remove your index finger from your lower eyelid.
- Close your cat's eyes for 1-3 minutes and tilt his head down. You can lightly massage your eyelids.
If you need to use more than one drop in one eye, wait at least 5 minutes before placing the next drop.
Replace and tighten the dropper bottle cap. Do not wipe or rinse the tip of the dropper. Wash your hands to remove medications.
Pharmacological properties
The active substance of the drug is aimed at destroying various types of pathogens. Ciprovet for cats reliably suppresses gram-positive and gram-negative pathogenic microflora:
- Staphylococcus aureus;
- streptococcus;
- Pseudomonas aeruginosa;
- chlamydia;
- listeria;
- mycoplasma;
- toxoplasma;
- salmonella;
- clostridia.
Ciprofloxacin effectively blocks bacterial protein synthesis, leading to their rapid death. In addition to the listed infectious agents, it is no less destructive for protozoan fungi.
After ingestion, the antibiotic immediately manifests its properties and helps quickly eliminate negative symptoms. The maximum concentration of the active ingredient in the blood is detected after 1.5-2 hours. The main effect of the medicine is maintained for at least a day. In addition to the antibacterial effect, the product has an antiseptic and anti-inflammatory effect.
Ciprovet for cats is classified as a moderately dangerous antibiotic that is not prone to provoke negative reactions. To carry out a gentle course of treatment, animal owners will be required to strictly adhere to all instructions in the instructions.
What special precautions should I follow when using Ciprovet in cats?
Before giving your cat Ciprovet tablets or eye drops, tell your veterinarian and pharmacist if she is allergic to Ciprovet, other quinolone antibiotics such as cinoxacin (Cinobac), enoxacin (Penetrex), gatifloxacin (Tequin, Zymar), levofloxacin (Levaquin, Quixin, Iquix), lomefloxacin (Maxaquin), moxifloxacin (Avelox, Vigamox), nalidixic acid (NegGram), norfloxacin and sparfloxacin (Zagam), any other medicines, or benzalkonium chloride.
Tell your doctor and pharmacist what prescription and over-the-counter medications, vitamins, dietary supplements, and herbal products you are giving your cat. Be sure to mention any drug from the following list:
- anticoagulants (“blood thinners”)
- cyclosporine (neoral, sandimmune)
- theophylline (theodur)
Your veterinarian may need to change your cat's medication dosage or carefully monitor your pet for side effects. Tell your veterinarian if your cat has any medical conditions. Tell your veterinarian if your cat is pregnant or lactating.
You should know that bacterial conjunctivitis spreads easily. Wash your hands often, especially after touching your eyes. What special dietary instructions should I follow? No changes to your cat's diet are required when using Ciprovet tablets or eye drops.
Contraindications of the solution
Tsiprovet drops are used for cats mainly for local effects. That is, the substance does not penetrate the body, the blood or lymph, but acts only at the level of the eye structure. Therefore, unlike tablets, the drug has virtually no restrictions on use.
Ciprovet drops are not suitable for cats that are hypersensitive to fluoroquinol antibiotics . It is also possible that an allergic reaction to one of the components of the drug may occur. Drops are not suitable for the treatment of eye diseases in newborn kittens under 1 week of age. The same rule applies to puppies.

Immediately after using Tsiprovet, the cat's behavior may change. Usually, animals initially feel a burning sensation, so they begin to rub their injured eye with their paws or perform other actions that are unusual for them. Usually these unpleasant sensations, which also entail increased tearfulness, go away on their own after 6-7 minutes after instillation. If this does not happen, then you need to rinse the cat’s eye with saline and seek help from a veterinarian.
It is important not to use other external medications during the treatment process, since the active ingredient Ciprovet loses its properties and becomes ineffective.
You can also give your cat Tsiprolet in tablet form. In this case, the drug performs a wider range of functions, including eliminating infectious diseases of the digestive system, genitourinary system, inflammation of the liver, gall bladder, and lungs. But in this case, a veterinarian should prescribe treatment with Tsiprovet tablets, since taking antibiotics through carelessness or mistake can pose a threat to the animal’s life.
What side effects may this medicine cause?
Ciprovet ophthalmic potassium may cause side effects in cats. Tell your veterinarian if your cat has serious symptoms, especially if they persist:
- redness, itching, irritation of the eye
- pain in the eye area
Some side effects may be serious. If you notice any of the following symptoms in your cat, call your doctor immediately:
- rash
- hives
- itching
- swelling of the muzzle, neck, tongue, lips, eyes, limbs
- difficulty breathing or swallowing
- aphonia - loss of voice
Ciprovet eye drops may cause other side effects in cats.
Call your veterinarian if you have any unusual problems when giving this medication to your cat.
Reviews of the drug from cat owners
Thanks to Tsiprovet drops, now the discharge from the eyes has almost stopped, only after instillation, after some time there is such a copious discharge, which I wash off with chamomile infusion, and that’s it, the kitten runs around and is happy. Only when I sleep do I notice a slight hydration under my eyes.

One bottle was not enough for me. But this is only because pouring medicine on a napkin can hardly be considered rational. I only needed to do this the first day, and then I could rinse my eyes generously

In just a week, my cat was transformed before my eyes! His eyes became clean, beautiful and healthy. The drops have a wide spectrum of action, treat fungi, infections and other infections, and, according to the label, they cope where other means are powerless. This is exactly what happened in my case. Nothing helped, but Tsiprovet simply saved us. I took the drops for about a week and forgot about this problem completely.

Our cat had brownish discharge from his eyes. After instillation four times a day, the eyes were clear until nightfall. But the next day, discharge appeared again, albeit in a much smaller volume. I started dripping again. And so gradually the eyes became clearer, and after a week they were completely clear.

We instilled it for 10 days, 4 times a day, as written in the instructions. The cat squealed and struggled, the three of them held it, it was apparently pinching heavily. But this is not so important, of course. It’s a shame that the eye was leaking before treatment and continued to fester. It even seemed to get worse.

The first days I did not notice any positive changes. It even seemed to me that everything was in vain. But within a week after the start of treatment, the purulent and brown discharge from the eyes disappeared, and after another week they began to look absolutely healthy.

Tsiprovet drops are suitable for cats and dogs, and, as it seemed to me, this option is very convenient, especially if there are both of them in the house!)

Unfortunately, not all antibacterial drugs help our little brothers well. This is what happened with my kotofey with drops of tsiprovet. In addition to the fact that the product is very aggressive and causes terrible itching with redness, my poor thing developed pus... precisely because of the prescribed drops.

What should I know about storing and disposing of this medicine?
Store Tsiprovet for cats in the container it was in, tightly closed and out of the reach of children. Store it at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom).
It is important to keep all medications out of the reach of children as many boxes and bottles (eg, tablets, eye drop bottles) are not child resistant. Small children can open them easily. To protect young children from Ciprovet poisoning, always close the caps and immediately place the medicine in a safe place—one that is up or out of sight and reach.
Unneeded medications should be disposed of in a special manner to prevent pets, children, and other people from consuming them. Do not flush this medicine down the toilet.
